Redmi 12C Review - Budget Phone with more offerings

My Redmi 12C review and experience - The Redmi 12c is the latest budget smartphone from Xiaomi's Redmi series with some impressive features for its price point, such as a large battery, powerful processor, and a large display. In this review, we will take a closer look at the Redmi 12c and see how it performs in real-world usage.

Redmi 12c Design:

Starting things off in our review of the Redmi 12c is the design, being what we all look out for in a smartphone, the Redmi 12c features a modern and sleek design, it has a plastic back with a gradient finish that gives it a premium look. The phone is available in three color options - Blue, Gray, and Green. The device has a 6.71-inch IPS LCD display with a resolution of 720 x 1650 pixels. It has a waterdrop notch that houses the front-facing camera. The phone is quite light and comfortable to hold in the hand.

Redmi 12C Review

Redmi 12c Performance:

For performance, it is powered by the Mediatek Helio G85 processor which is a budget chipset but delivers impressive performance. The phone runs on Android 11 with MIUI 13 on top. It has 4GB/6GB of RAM and 64/128GB of internal storage which can be expanded up to 512GB using a MicroSD card. For daily performance, the phone handles day-to-day tasks smoothly and runs most apps and games without any lag.

Redmi 12C Camera:

The Redmi 12c has a triple camera setup on the back, consisting of a 50MP primary sensor, a 2MP depth sensor. It also has a 5MP front-facing camera for selfies. The camera performance is decent for a budget phone. The pictures captured by the rear camera are good in daylight conditions, but the quality drops in low light.

The front-facing camera captures decent selfies but don't expect a mid-range or flagship selfie experience, it just delivers what you'd expect of a low budget phone. In my opinion, the selfie could have at least been up to 8MP considering the device price point.

Redmi 12C Battery:

Battery life is another thing we all look out for when buying a smartphone. The Redmi 12c has a massive 5000mAh battery that easily lasts for a day or more on moderate usage. It comes with a 10W charger, which takes around 2 hours to fully charge the phone. The phone also has a power-saving mode that can further extend the battery life.

Redmi 12c Display:

The Redmi 12c has a large 6.6-inch IPS LCD display with a resolution of 720 x 1600 pixels. The display is quite good for a budget phone, with good color accuracy and decent viewing angles. However, the resolution could have been higher for a better viewing experience. Under direct sunlight, its usable as well without having to strain to view text or screen content.

Redmi 12c Connectivity:

The Redmi 12c supports dual-SIM, 4G LTE, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 5.0, GPS, and a USB Type-C port for charging and data transfer. It also has a 3.5mm headphone jack, which is a welcome addition.

Redmi 12c Software:

On the software front, it runs on Android 11 with MIUI 12.5 overlay. MIUI is Xiaomi's custom skin, which adds a lot of features and customization options to the stock Android experience. Some users might find the interface a bit cluttered and overwhelming, but overall it's quite user-friendly.

Security:

For security, The Redmi 12c has a rear-mounted fingerprint scanner and supports face unlock. Both of these methods are quite fast and accurate, making it easy to unlock the phone. Redmi 12c.

Redmi 12c Price:

As to the price, the Redmi 12c is priced at around $150 which is about N85,000 to N97000, making it an excellent value for money. It's one of the cheapest phones with a large battery and decent performance.

As at writing, the Redmi 12C is already on sales via both offline and online platforms across Nigeria, even though Xiaomi Nigeria has not officially. A further check and comparison with similarly spec’d smartphones reveals that the 12C is currently the most affordable Helio G85 Android device currently in Nigeria.

Conclusion:

The Redmi 12c is a great budget smartphone that offers a lot of features for its price. While it's not perfect, it's hard to find fault with a phone that delivers so much for so little. If you're looking for an affordable smartphone with good features, the Redmi 12c is definitely worth checking out.
